| 20 Apr 2006 | Sandra Leigh | Loading...very nice, but the main figures get lost with the abundance of detail. I have a comic book artist how to book written by Stan Lee, and a few art classes under me, and one of the things they ALWAYS tell you: If your background is busy, keep the main focus simple and vice versa. The eye here is drawn to the figure on the wall because of the simple shading used (versus all the crosshatch) while the guy on the ground and the monster look like part of the graffiti. Some cross hatching is a good technique, but don't over do it. Look at some of the best professional examples and decide what's different about your peice in terms of light/dark simple/complex detailing. You have a good hand and attention to detail, but need to learn a little balance. It will jump your work quickly from merely good amatuer to 'I want you to ink the next issue of my comic' professional (And I think that's just a short leap, too.) | |
