| 30 Oct 2003 | Thalia Tunterra | Loading...In Greek myth the sphynx didn't wear clothes. Do some research and calm down, "A. Nonny Mouse" (that's from a kid's book, don't ask.) As to the artist, I love your pieces, and I'm sorry to see that some of the people who decide to comment on your work have a hard time suppressing their asinine tendencies. Keep up the good work! | |

| 18 Jan 2004 | Anonymous | Loading...To the artist who did the tour: The answer to the riddle is man. As a child he crawls on all 4's, when he learns to walk he walks on 2 legs and in old age he walks with the aid of a stick. Does the tour say the original riddle as the version i read had references to morning, noon and night. | |

Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sphinx for specifics. A brief lowdown is een as guardians in the egyptian statuary, sphinxes are depicted in one of these three forms: Androsphinx - body of lion with head of person; Criosphinx - body of lion with head of ram; Hierocosphinx - body of lion with head of falcon or hawk. There was a single Sphinx in Greek mythology; a riddling winged monster with a woman's head and breast on a lion's body; daughter of Typhon The revived Mannerist Sphinx of the 16th century is sometimes thought of as the French Sphinx. Her lovely coiffed head is erect and she has the pretty bust of a young woman. Often she wears ear drops and pearls. Her body is naturalistically rendered as a recumbent lion. Kudos on a lovely picture Rhonda. | |
