Some of the most well known paintings Bob Ross created were made during his holidays in the Generic mountain range.  Several of these painting feature the Islandic frostdrake in all it’s majestic glory. Though some people scorn these painting as not being entirely realistic, one cannot help but marvel at the beauty of these great beasts. Can anybody really blame Bob for preserving this idyllic scene by leaving out the cadavers that were sure to surround the creature?”

(Oils and Photoshop. Loosely based on a free How-to-do-a-landscape-Bob-Ross-style from the Bob Ross site: http://www.bobross.com/landscape.cfm. Bobrossing is fun, and I can recommend it to anybody. It’s very unpretentious, and who knows, you might actually end up with something resembling a painting.)

"...and this happy little cloud lives right over here..." I love Bob Ross! I've always thought his landscapes would be very useful as backgrounds for fantasy pieces... Thanks for helping confirm my suspicions! ;o) I have a piece or two in my gallery that are Bob-inspired as well.

Anyway, you did an excellent job with the landscape, and the dragon fits perfectly into the scene and the style of the background. I'd love to see more of these! *heads off to look at the rest of your gallery*

Good work!

What I loved about Bob Ross was "it doesn't matter where you put it, its YOUR world!"

OH MY GOD! This painting is so good and detailed, the mountain is wonderful!

:-) J. Post (Rosesred) replies: "Thanks! Actually, I kind of played a trick on the mountain. The mountain looks very detailed, because I used a very rough texture. It took 5 min. to paint that big thing 12"

I like the scenery, also the dragon's head is very nice.

Very nice painterly style here! The dragon looks very real, belonging to its surroundings. Amazing!

2 J. Post (Rosesred) replies: "Actually, the dragon suprised me too. It's much easier to get a lifelike texture with oil, than in any other medium, as I found out when I painted the dragon. "

I must say this is very nice... paintings aren't really my thing, so I can't really critick it... or offer any advice for that matter... cause this is sooooo beyond what I can do. but I was wondering if you could possibly stop by my page and give me some constructive criticism on some of my works... any help would be greattly apreciated.

1 J. Post (Rosesred) replies: "Well, I'm a pretty big fan of your work as it is, but I'll drop by and see if I can find something useful to say 2"

Ha! Love the dragon's attitude. He's all chillin'. Man, you totally nailed the stream in the foreground, and you did a kick-arse job on the mountain as well. I remember watching him Saturday mornings, talking about how his conifers were lonely and they needed a friend. I think a dragon is a better friend than another conifer. 12

I think really the only constructive crit I have to offer is on the ground that the dragon's lying on. Where it drifts off between the trees on the right-hand side of the canvas, maybe it should have some deeper shadows? Truly awesome piece, though. I admire people who can work with oils. (Yipes!) Keep it up! Lookin' good. ^_^

Haha, I've seen the episode where he painted this very picture! Without the dragon, of course. Excellent job of recreating his style. This is a beautiful picture.
