What is the Element of this dragon? Uranium 235!!(Ok, it's an isotope, so sue me. Isotopian Dragon just sounds really wierd.) EXOBIOLOGY LOG: THE U-235 DRAGON This extremely rare draconian lives in the middle of a vast, irradiated desert. They are mostly scavengers, but their alternative source of energy is quite unusal: the radioactive fuels left stockpiled in their deep underground caverns by a ancient civilization. Certain arthropods and some bacteria can survive high levels of radiation, but how does a large vertebrate do it? To prevent chemical poisoning, the Uranium is fixed in the form of Uranyl Acetate and other Uranium salts in it's skin, which has developed a chitinous plating similar to insects. This keeps most the material away from the bone marrow. Additionally, it's tissue cells undergo steady synthesis (exept in the heavily-shielded brain), to keep it's cellular lifespan shorter than the usual time it takes to be damaged by radiation. Under normal circumstances, this would accelerate the organism's aging, but draconian cellular nuclei are somehow unnaffected by this phenomenon (Is this why dragons are generally so long-lived?). Additionally, a certain type of phosphorescent bacteria so strange that they could have only been genetically engineered millennia ago (possibly with alien genes), lives in a sybiotic relationship with the draconian. This unusual bacteria lives in pockets along the dragon's neck and tail, feeding on surrounding radiation, creating sugars and carbohydrates from material in the dragon's blood with the harvested energy (radiosynthesis? What would it be called?!) and supplying the draconian with a reliable source of ATP energy. CAUTION: certain specimens have been verified to posses a radioactive breath attack. Approach this species only while wearing radiation suits. High chances of contracting cancer if attacked.

Green glowing eyes... Big wings... even more great green... May I build a hut in your universe? Even to be eaten by that one would be a pleasure...
