SciFi and Fantasy Art Wednesday-- The Little Death (Black and White) (Violence) by Chris M. Rubenstahl

Oookay. A little background on this picture. I drew a couple of sketches of our Mage NPC Wednesday, including one of her in a nightgown, carrying a severed head. One of my players requested this picture, after seeing that sketch. It's essentially just her showing off after killing another child molester, but it also implies that she's a necrophiliac. She kind of is, but that's not the point of the drawing. This pic even disturbs me a bit. Followed by a Paintshop-colored version, colored by the requester himself: my friend Jeremy.

Oh good, I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was slightly disturbed by this one This one (and the colored version) really reminds me of some of the cover work for the old dime-store novels (penny dreadfuls?) from the fifties. True crime, right? Chris M. Rubenstahl replies: "Well, when drawing her, I try to get across exactly how dangerous she is. She's semi-psychotic, borderline sociopathic, and obsessed with death. That she happens to be somewhat attractive as well is supposed to be creepy, and apparently, it works."

I love how disturbing this is She looks very seductive and voluptuous, succubus-style... and clearly being entrapped by that can be a very fatal mistake. I especially like the flowers on her gown, they add to the contrast of elegance and style and her obviously twisted nature. Chris M. Rubenstahl replies: "Thanks for commenting! I'm glad all of those elements showed in the final drawing, because that's a pretty accurate description of how I always saw the character."
