In the mournful cry, she heard a voice call, “Th—ear—ah. Thea—ra. Thera!”

The dragon closed its jaws, lowered its large, wedge-shaped head and flexed its feathery crest. It sighed and its saucer-sized eyes shined with sorrow and regret. Tears fell from the golden eyes, ran down the long, tapered muzzle and fell to the ground like raindrops, disturbing the loose ash. For every tear, a violet sprouted until they covered the land. The girl turned and stared at the brilliant green and blue-violet carpet blanketing the ground, breathing in its sweet scent.
