I decided I have a ridiculous amount of fun doing cutaway drawings.  Most pictures pan down and end where the panel frames it, this rather just splits the scene and keeps going.  I've been playing around with it while comicing to show both above and below water aspects of a scene and figured - why not dirt too?

Dragon-y girl Ryth got a new outfit in this one as well, figured it was appropriate since she'd freeze in her usual armour in a winter scene.  I'm sure she's pleased (she sure looks it!).

I don't know why people hate winter snow, theres always wondrous things buried beneath the snow.  And the snows so dang pretty!  Those little snowy wisps in the bottom cave are the minions(?) of the Snow princess.  She collects and keeps the things that get lost and forgotten to the rest of the world when they disappear in the snow.  She gets more explorers and children than you'd hope, but thankfully she gets lots of shinies to keep them amused, and socs and mittens to keep them warm.

Someone could find that mitten yet, so it might be saved!

I've gotten a lot better huh?  Faster too.  [Dec 2006]

LOVE the effect of seeing above and below ground. thats way too cool, and it gives the picture an incredible amount of depth and interest. i also like the way youve photoshopped over the sketch lines.

2 Ruth E. Steinback replies: "Well technically I photoshopped under the sketch lines by using layers and setting the sketch layer to 'multiply'. It actually goes quite quickly that way if you've got a solid sketch to work from that isn't too faint or wispy. I have so much fun playing around with that cutoff effect too! Thank you for letting me know that you like it as well, and especially why! Its very helpful."
