One thing that would maybe improve it a little (or not... what do I know anyway?) is more character development for Wanderer's Companions before they take on their Journey Names so that we know them a little better. It would make them more recognizable once the new names come. The Glossary helps, but I'd rather not have to refer it so much to figure out who's who before they reassert themselves again. Otherwise, beautiful story. The relationship (for lack of a better word) developing between Light and Spirit is especially interesting. I sort of feel like he's the partner she lacks... or something else entirely... like he's not necessarily a friend. I hope you keep that ambiguity about him for a bit longer. Ruth E. Steinback replies: "I hope I finsih it too! Sorry bout the long reply wait, stupid school summatives. *hiss* Anyway, I really appreciate your advice, even more so as you took the time to comment on my longest story. I'll keep that in mind and see what I can do about clarifying the multitudes of characters earlier on. Though that might come later in the editing stage. And don't worry about Hart (Spirit), he's got LOTS of interesting stuff coming his way. *evil smirk* We'll all just have to wait and see! Really glad you liked it, and thanks. "
| 23 Jan 2003 | Maarten De Koster | Loading...Well, I read your stories, and I'm euh...quite impressed! ^-^ They rock, if you ask me! The only thing that I noticed (just noticed, doesn't mean it bothers me or anything!) is that you travel quickly through your book. I mean, whenever they have to travel somewhere, for instance the plains with the chasm, you just rush them over without any more details (if there are any). Anyway, it's a wonderful story, and I was sad when I read the last lines...I want more! :'( But I'll probably just have to wait! :-s NEwayz, great work on a wonderful story, I love the 'element' things, and Arion! ^-^ While reading it, I got just about, oh I dunno, 100 or so ideas for drawings, of which none I drew! :-S They just look so nice in my head (for instance Hart sitting in front of the fire in the library, what a wonderfully shaded work that must be!), but I just can't put them on paper...Anywayz, again, very nice work, keep 'em coming! ^-^ Ruth E. Steinback replies: "Yay! I'm finally getting around to replying to these comments. Really. I must learn to show my appreciation of my readers in a more timely manner. Sheesh. ^_^
I must agree with you about the descriptions while they are journeying. I fully plan on adding a lot more mini adventures at some point. Even planned on that as I was typing it. Thing is I can't write stories, I have to type them. The story takes over my brain that my thoughts go too fast and I have to hurry or I lose them. That's why I can type quick! Had to keep going or I would have lost some of the interactions I had planned that kept shifting and changing and growing in my mind. And I know what you mean about the images!! I want to draw them so much! I just... can't. Yet. I really need a holodeck with a plug to my brain so I can just download the bloody images. ^_^ Thank you thank you thank you for reading my work! Their WILL be more! They're just way to much fun to write. PS I do have a bit more done, kind of. People are going to get a bit of an explanation as to Small Utopia. Perhaps. Muahahaha. ^_-"

So far I've read 'Ages' and if that's any indication then this is a great page. I looked up your elvish name in the back of Tolkien's 'The Silmarillion' but couldn't find any of it. How did you arrive at this elvish name? Anyway, Great work. Ruth E. Steinback replies: "Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you like Ages, and I hope my other writing is as good. I translated my name to Elvish using a site I found. It actually means the same as my full real name. If people want to post their names and the meanings of them (I can try and find meanings if you don't know) then I'll see about translating them for you! ^_^ Just ask! (Well, and maybe read some of my stories too, lol!) Yay for Canadianess!"
| 25 Feb 2003 | E. Hanna | Loading...Hello Again. I read your latest poem, for which awesome is an insufficient description. Congratulations on a wonderful piece. Do stop by my library if you get a chance : > Ruth E. Steinback replies: "Will do! ^_^ Just keep coming back to visit mine!" | |
| 2 Mar 2003 | Carelian Fire | Loading...Hey... I'm back again, reminded by that comment of yours... and I'm slowly starting to get into your stories. Just listened to some music (oh okay, Final Fantasy music) which got me in the mood. THE mood. Heh. AND I've concluded Final Fantasy 3 has the best music of all the 'older' ffgames. THE music, period. No, no arguing - don't even try. Oh... till we meet again (ok, don't wait for it...). Ruth E. Steinback replies: "... I really wish I knew more about Final Fantasy than what Kil has told me. *sigh*Thanks for coming by! Now I know my message works. lol, comment on my stuff when you read it please! I want to know what you think." | |
| 10 May 2004 | Alice B. Hyde | Loading...HIIIIIIIII!! You commented on Charlotte's page!! ^_^ YAY!! 'Hem. My name's Alice and it means light...what's me Elvish name?? *eager awaiting* Ruth E. Steinback replies: " I did indeed! Let's see here, oh 'nd I found that unless yours is an unusual origin for Alice, it actually means noble or truth. If yours does mean light however it'd be 'Cala' in Quenya elvish. (same as my middle name)
Alice Hyde -> (noble/truth) (haven/harbour) -> (Arnostale or Arquen or Arwen or Artanis) Londe
You get many options your first name actually, AND it turns out Arwen's name actually means the same as yours. Your last name has a cool meaning too. That's so cool! "
| 18 Sep 2004 | Copper Fox | Loading...I love your work it is so beautiful. I feel like i'm in the place the stories happening in. My name is Jessica it means gods grace. I have been looking for the elvish translation but I can't find it. Can you please tell me? | |
