One time voices sounded.
I will create something wonderful.
Why? Of what purpose is this?
I will because I can. It will be wonderful and great because I can make something wonderful and great.
Then do so if you wish.
A beautiful place bloomed, colours unfolding and blending into existence.
Tell me that what I have made is great and wonderful.
Why must you be told? You have created something truly wonderful and great. Isn’t it its own confirmation?
I want to know that what I have made is great and wonderful. How can I know if anyone but I thinks it so?
Who must tell you? There are no others.
Beings grew and changed, learned and sought.
Now there are true beings to admire what I have made.
They are wonderful; they thrive with what you have given them. Why are you displeased?
They do not know me. They do not appreciate what I have done for them.
What will you do? Is not there being and joy enough?
A great change overcame the existence. The colours grew dim, the joy less, what was whole began to break.
What have you done now?
I will show them. They will learn to appreciate everything.
They do not seem appreciative. They seem lost.
Then they should ask for help. They should know who has helped them.
In desperation smaller voices began to be heard.
They speak to you now. What will you do?
I will give gifts to those who name me.
Gifts only? Not the existence they’ve known before?
If they go back then they’ll forget me again.
The beings grew used to the dullness of things, stopped remembering things were better.
They don’t remember you now.
Then they will lose more.
Will that really accomplish what you want?
Yes! They will be as I say.
The existence disintegrated, shattered beyond existence.
You broke it.
No I did not! They did not understand anything. They destroyed themselves.
They were not as they could have been. I can make them. I can make them wonderful and great in every way.
Though to what purpose it will serve, you may if you wish.
A wonderful existence bloomed, colours bright and blending into being. At some point beings were formed…thrived… lived…broke…
I can make it something wonderful and great. I can keep it perfect.
I wonder if they ever will.

Hey yo! Whatsup??? I really love this, and I can see where the pattern comes in, you said you loved patterns. Very interesting, and thanks for reading IBWH.

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "Hey no problem! Your story was/is awesome! Thanks so much, you're my first comment ever. 2 Thanks for reading my bio too, patterns are fun."

And I thought you were good at drawing and making pictures, but your stories are even better (if that's possible [kidding? Yes!]). This is.... it's... it's.. Awesome.

Improvised it? I love those ^_^.

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "Wow, thanks for the awesome comment! I don't think I do any real stories other than improvised. I just write them down as I get them."

The "Companion" story has more than plenty of ending, as I can see it. Perhaps a bit long-winded, but at least, no more conclusion is needed. It slowly turns into silence, and pretty much all is said.
If you want to continue this story, I'd rather see a new story based on the one you have now concluded. If you can come up with a good one, I'd rather like to see. If you can't, there's little need to do more with it.

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "  I'm not entirely sure what you're asking me to do with my companion story. In my own mind its just beginning, I haven't even started! Heck, they haven't really even gotten anywhere yet. Elani still has to find her name at the very least.
Though, unless I misunderstand, I don't think I agree with your statement I appreciate your feedback anyway."

Oh. I see. I like it... the idea. I like it. Where do you think we are? Forgetting? Or breaking already? I wonder whether we will break at all... hmm... well, I think it is inevitable, unless humanity manages to conquer its basic personality. But would that be funny anymore, huh? I think not. Noo... we'll break, soon or late. But. I wonder what'll come of it when we break? What is the new 'us'? Now THAT is interesting... I think.

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "I think I think too much. I mean, it was my brain that thought of it right? I think we're forgetting honestly. Not remembering that it can be better, not trying to make it so (number one! *shudder* Star Trek reference. lol!). Thank you. Your comment is muchly appreciated. 2"
16 Jan 2003:-) Maarten De Koster
In my opinion, we are close to breaking...too close...and what will come when we have broken? Another 'us', perhaps different in looks or behaviour, yet the same in ways most of us cannot even begin to understand...Should you believe in such a thing, then destiny is what you could call it...Life is a circle, and a circle, as we all know, has no end. Life will persevere, but in its perseverance, it will vanish an infinite amount of times...

Lovely text, it got to me. I started reading the first line, and I don't think anything could've gotten my attention away from this text as long as I hadn't read it totally...It's very true, what you wrote there. And a magnificent way of looking at life...This has given me something to think about for another week or so! 1

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "You DID come read my story! Yay! ^_^ Thank you thank you... you get the idea. I wonder if there is anyway to reverse the pattern, back up the steps. Hm. Glad to hear my stories can suck someone other than me into them! At least then I have company. 12"

Oh wow! This is so moving. It really makes you think. I love how you did this and it's so true. It's amazing how we can be so selfish and egostical and abosorbed in ourselves. I love this. ^_~

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "Time to get my act together and reply to some of these lovely comments! I have all sorts of excuses, many school related, many more school related... yeah.
Anyway, thank you very much for the comment and I'm immensely glad you enjoyed it!"

This may be just me- but I found the creation theme very biblical in style. This is a fascinating story subject to any number of interpretations. Also, the format of narrator and two voices is very original and keeps the reader captivated until the end. This story has that special spark of life that makes it profound.

In all aspects a beautiful story.

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "I found that biblical thing popping into my mind whle I was writing it too, I think because it is a creation story, though I tried very hard to avoid traditional good/evil positioning. It just seemed to want to speak for itself. Yay! I have written something profound! My work here is ... only beginning! Thank you very much."

Wow... Now I have something interseting to think about. Definetly awesom Tryn. I wonder... is it real? Is any of this. I really like this story. Sorry for leaving nuts comment, But I in a very weird mood.

-Kasha

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "I'm really thrilled at the responses to this story. Thanks a lot for stopping to see it Kasha! Who knows if its real. Maybe if we could name them. But then, how could we know the right names? *sigh* You're not the only one in a weird mood."
23 Feb 2003:-) Petri Rahkola
Hehe Will they ever learn? This was fun to read 1 And thanks for the comment at my gallery. / Petri

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "No, thank you! Its so hard to get people to comment on stories. They might learn, someday, but I'm not making any bets right now."
4 Mar 2003:-) Alix Marie Westgard
Wow! I like the ideas presented in this! Makes you think... I like stories that make me think. Which is basically just what everyone else has said, but I thought I'd confirm it for you 10

oh and... Want to translate my name to Elvish? Puh-lease?!

:-) Ruth E. Steinback replies: "Don't mind hearing it! Sure I'll translate your name, well as best I can anyway. If I got the meaning of your name wrong anywhere just tell me and I'll retranslate. ... *some time later*
