Here's my spin on Gimli, who says dwarfs can't be sexy ~_^. It's also my first real attempt at drawing armor and chainmail, I could'nt draw a cool looking helmet so I drew a cloak instead. I loved the movie but I really prefer when people do their 'own' version of the characters rather then the actor as that character. He's such a cool character its a real shame that there aren't more pics of him (an dwarfs in general).

I like this picture a lot! I especially like the fact he's not wearing a helmet. Helmets are for sissys that are afraid to get smacked on the head and don't want to see what they're doing. 12

Nice axes too but the knife... oh well, might still be of use as a tool. 12 Who fights with knives anyways when he has some nice axes to chop away at things.

*repeating what all the others before him already said...*

It's about time Gimli got some attention from the fans. Legolas is starting to get on my nerves! Great work!

This is a rather dashing Gimli indeed. His armor is great, especially for a first attempt 17
I really like that you do your own version of LotR characters too, and not strictly based off the movies.

I kbow you've heard it a hundred times or more...but this is amazing. Gimli has always been my favourite character, and this is close to the way I always pictured him - not just a short brute, but as a very proud, deep-feeling person.

You're an amazing artist. Great work! 1

I gotta say, i went to Fanfiction.net and read Of Fire and Stars--firstly, it's fabulous to read something Pro-Dwarfs where they aren't just bumbling idiots, seconds, I love your Gimli, he was fascinating to read about, and third, it's a rare gift to be as skilled with a drawing tablet as with words. You write as well as you draw! This Gimli evokes a sense of deep thought, drawing the viewer into the image and leaving you feeling a bit skewered by his thoughtful gaze. Keep up the unbelivably fabulous work! And...*smiles* could you write some more Gimli fics sometime soon...?

Gimli is TOTALLY the man, his crush on Galadriel is just beyond adorable, and that makes him one of my favorite characters (alond with Sam, of course!). Yay for the Gimli love!

Looks good. But here are the problems. In the book it’s mentioned that dwarves would grow there beards to the point that they could be tucked into their belts. The beard in this picture is far too short. The knife, as has been said before is impractical. The serrations are too much and on the assthetic side the handle is too long. If wasn’t for the finger grooves it wouldn’t be a problem though. It just doesn’t make sense for there to be room for two more fingers, unless they are just for better grip in general, in which case they really should be smaller. The pipe is nice and all, but if he gets into a fight right now he’s going to A. break the thing in his teeth B. break it when he drops it on the ground C. have to stop to put it away before taking a swing. The delay would be even longer because he would have to put away one of the weapons he has out to stow the pipe not counting the fact that the pipe is still lit, so he can’t ecactly stick it in his pocket.

Also, the axe... it would be more realistic to see him using it with both hands, but it’s not too much of a stretch for him to use it in conjuction with a knife. And finally the armor. This is an area in which I have some specific experience. Why isn’t there any armor below the waist? It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it’s more than likely that his mail would extend at least to the knees. Also (and here I enter a fictional debate) dwarves in most fictional references would not where segmented plates as shown in this picture, but rather mail and heavy, often studded, armor. The picture looks good. But being that I work with armor and weapons, I had to point a few things out. Just for you to think about next time. Keep up the good work.
