This was done as a present for Jude, a wonderful friend and fellow artist whose link can be found on my main page. I have long admired the art nouveau style and Mucha's work in particular. So this was an intertesting experiment. Not sure I'm happy with the outcome, it seems to lack delicacy and the colours are too strong. Not to mention her face seems distorted because I made the mistake of changing it half way through painting. But not a bad first effort, it gave me way more respect for Mucha and all his contemporaries.

Acrylic on gessoed canvas board, approx 10' x 12'. Feb 2004

Oh lovely, you've really captured the essence of Art Nouveau here, Sam.
This is wonderful, though I agree on the colours, maybe they're abit to bold? Her face looks fine to me, very peaceful and blissful. Her hands look fine to me too!

And the hair is gorgeous! I really can see a Mucha influence there. Last week I saw an exposition in Rotterdam about him and it was...so inspiring yet dicouraging. Wow, that man was awfully good! And I've got the busposter for free from a kind man who changes them weekly 2 Anyway, I'm rambling, I'm sorry.

This is wonderful, Sam! It really is. I especially like her skintone 2 It goes wonderfully with her dress!
And I'm sure Jude was very happy with this!

Hmm...well, I've never heard of Mucha-sama, but if you admire him, he must be cool. 12 *wink* This is awesome! Oh, so what about the face? I think it makes it more interesting, and even if colors are bolder than you say they shouold be in this particular art style, they look really cool! I really like this, good job! ^-^

Mucha is great, but so are you 2 I love this picture! The gilded moon and the blue dress are my favorite parts, but also the framing on the corners is really unique and adds a lot to it. Very good job! I love art nouveau.
