The stars shone down brightly from the heavens, lighting the way for the two fugitives as they paced swiflty on through the ever thickening blanket of mist that covered the ground like a shroud, shimmering in the moonlight. The cool air was heavy with different scents and Garunar inhaled deeply, savouring freedom once more. But the beauty of the night was lost on his young companion for Tao could not relax; danger filled the air.
"You are anxious tonight, little brother. Relax."
But Tao's only response was to quickened his pace.
"I can't relax, Garunar. Something is coming; something is following us!"
Garunar sighed and eventually turned to look at the young Canni at his side. Captivity had hurt Tao deeply; the dark, claustrophbic confines and torment scarring him deeply. A cricket's chirrup made the young Canni whip around in alarm and scent the air desperatly but he could catch no sign of their captor. Garunar shook his head in resignation, he could only put up with so much of this.
"No one is coming, Tao. We are free now; try to act like it!"
Tao knew that Garunar was right; knew that he had let it go but he could not. Something, out there in the darkness was following them. They were not going to be allowed to escape that easily. But of one thing Tao was sure; he could never go back to that place again. Never again.
(Well, something like that anyway! I don't really have a whole story to go with these two but i was just drawing and these two characters appeared on the page and i fell in love with them. They are Canni ( (c) to me), shrouded in mystery with the ability to understand the speach of Man. Many myths and legends surround them, not all of them good, so now they have been hunted almost to extinction. Now these two fugitives are fleeing for their lives. I hope to draw more of them as i'm experimenting with different cartoon styles so hopefully more are on the way!)
