"Scenting the Rain" by Sam Adams

This piece of madness was drawn for Kine's challenge, based on three creatures chosen by Charlotte Grub. Her first choices seemed simple enough, dog, horse and then...giraffe. Yeh. Hee hee but i loved the challenge and i managed to work out how to put it together quite quickly, but i must apologise for how long it took me to finally getting round to colouring it...i've been away from Elfwood waaay too long!!!

I have to admit to being fond of this elegant, if a little odd creature. I will be putting up a character page as soon as possible but here are a few little details to be going on with. Their latin name is canis giraffalis or the Giraffe Dog (so inspired) and so are more commonly known by locals as the Raffi Dog. Dispite the obvious giraffe markings, they are in fact carnivores of the canine family. They live in the African savannah where their favourite prey is young giraffes. This is where their markings come into play. Lying down they could easily be mistaken for a baby giraffe, tricking both unwary griraffes and poachers alike. They are extremely fast runners to catch prey if it runs and are usually solitary. Some may form a pack but these are rarely unified and there are constant squabbles over food and hierachy.

This is a cropped version of a larger picture. I wanted to have a doody background, perhaps scenting long awaited rains far away (especially for Charlotte) but it really didn't go as i wanted and nearly ruined the whole picture, so i cropped it and like it much better now. As i said, character sheet with more doodles of this creature on the way soon i hope!
