SciFi and Fantasy Art Mandos (Námo) by Neal R. Haney aka Olo Chubb of Deephollow

Námo the elder dwells in Mandos, which is westward in Valinor. He is the keeper of the Houses of the Dead, and the summoner of the spirits of the slain. He forgets nothing; and he knows all things that shall be, save only those that lie still in the freedom of Ilúvatar. He is the Doomsman of the Valar; but he pronounces his dooms and his jugements only at the bidding of Manwë. The Silmarillion, 'Valaquenta' Mandos was the hardest to design for me because I never really had an image in my head what he looked like. I know he doesn't look like a 'Keeper-of-the-Dead' type person as I have portrayed him, but that is what came to my mind at the time. mechanical pencil, pen, prismacolor.

I am very much amazed at your skill, especially in drawing hands, not just in this picture, but in all of your others. I love this picture very much, please keep drawing! Neal R. Haney aka Olo Chubb of Deephollow replies: "WOW! A COMMENT! Thank you! I think what it is is that Mandos is more or less a God of the Dead, which would suggest black, and I PUT HIM IN GREENS!!! My Costume professor would be hanging her head in shame! I'm thinking of making another version of him and make him like he should be: dark and...menacing? no. Dark and forboding. Look for it in the near future. Namarie."

Haney aka Olo Chubb of Deephollow replies: "Probably because he's a God of the Dead, which should be black, but I put him in GREEEEEEENS! GREENS! WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?! 4 Aug 2008	Phoenix	Loading... Oooh! Great job! I love how you did Mandos’s hair. In all the pictures I find of him, he has black or brown hair, but I always imagined him as having white or gray because he’s the "Doomsman of the Valar", and those people usually look older. His pose is fantastic, too. Very serious. I do think black or gray would be more suiting, though, so I’m waiting for the new picture!
