The brush strokes in the water are diagonal towards that corner, the mermaid’s arm and hand direct the viewer in that direction, and even the mermaid is staring in that corner, bringing more attention to that area. This is a problem because it creates confusion about where the focal point is. My eye first went to the girl’s face, then the corner. Otherwise, the painting is very pretty. I think it would have been a lot better if her hand was in and she was somehow curled around her hand as if inspecting an object in it. Something like that would keep the focus on the mermaid, which is much more interesting than a corner. Keep up the good work! You’re doing great. | |
