There's actually quite a strange story behind this one: the weapon on this picture actually exists! I walked past it while visiting a castle and immediately had to think of dwarves. So I took a picture of it, drew a sketch of it and added the dwarf! :) It's actually sort of a medieval version of a shotgun (couldn't seem to find a different word in English for it), although it kinda looks more like the first prototype of a sniper rifle. I tried to make the pic more interesting by adding a little bit of a background and some torchlight, but my success was only partial. Maybe I'll try improving the background someday, but the original already looks a lot darker than the scanned version (my scanner seems to dislike coloured pencils) and I don't want to ruin it. Still, I'd love to hear any comments on it. ...please? :))

your color pencil drawings are very good but the problem with them, or this one only, is that you dont distinguish all of your items in the oicture ..... like the rock it blends too much into the floor. It looks as though you drew the outline of the rock and colored it in the same time and all at once with the floor. do you see where im getting at. Everything has a different design and texture so everything should look differnt. I have the same problem too but the reason that happens is because im lazy.

:-) Sascha Frank replies: "Well, I guess you're right. But the rocks were just supposed to make the background slightly more interesting; I mainly focused on getting the lighting right and on creating a few dynamic lines in the picture. Still, I'll try to keep your advice in mind. ^^"

"My! What a large barrel you have!" "All the better to bust a cap in your A**" <That is the only thing that comes to my mind when I see that. Either way I really like it.

I'm not sure but I think the word you're looking for might be "ballista." I've never seen one but that weapon seems to match every description I've ever read of them. Except that normally they shoot spears. Just a thought. Great job; the dwarf has a lot of character evident the way you've drawn him.

I've always liked dwarves! It's such a masterpiece! Why can't I draw anything like that...?
