Moon Dancer

Corrigan gasped with delight, her slender fingers automatically clutching the iron, moon-engraved pendant at her throat. It was her good luck charm, given to her by her grandmother just before she was taken into the stars. They had always had a special connection, she and the elderly woman, for they both shared a name—Corrigan, moon dancer. The young woman shivered in the chill of the darkness, pure excitement flooding her veins like the warmth from her clan fire. The moon was full and round this night, chasing away the darkness with her soft silver fingers. Corrigan’s blood was racing. She knew something was going to happen tonight—the moon pendant told her so.

She gazed up at the moon, seeing not its cratered surface broken by hundreds of meteors crashing into its marred face, but a beautiful young maiden in full bloom, her innocence radiated in the brilliant rays of silver cast upon her people below. Corrigan basked in it, feeling once again as young and as carefree as if she were still a little child and not a grown woman, unaware of the true horrors of her world. The pendant throbbed against her chest and she knew that something was going to happen—it was imminent.

Her young heart soared as her dark eyes brushed over the wild, open prairie bathed in moonlight, and back up to caress the moon once more. The longing had returned; that fierce insistent longing to walk upon her surface filled her soul, and she spread her arms out wide and danced. Around and around she whirled through the grasses, her feet so light they barely even brushed the ground. She was free; as wild as the open wilderness around her, as wild, even, as the maiden of the night herself. Her feet were alive beneath her body. The pendant throbbed against her chest until its movement consumed her with passion. She wanted to dance with her mistress! She wanted to be Corrigan!

The world around her changed. She felt lighter, almost as if she were floating, bounding farther and higher than she ever had before. The grass beneath her feet shifted and was gone, replaced by soft dust. She felt warm and cold at the same time. But most of all she felt at peace.

Corrigan danced across the surface of the moon, her bare feet leaving imprints in the gray dust behind her.

For the love of Venus, that was amazing!!! I cannot believe you are so young yet create art such as this! You have a gift girl, DO NOT let it go! Damn it, I'm quite jealous now, lol!
Well done!

:-) Rachel ´Saya´ Lamine replies: "Thanks so much! I rather liked this little piece myself. Usually I hate all my writing, but this one I liked and that is pretty unusual, beside for the fact that it had no plot... >_< Ah, well, I had fun writing it anyway. And thanks again. I will definately keep on writing, though I'm kind of going through a little bit of writers block right now....~Rachel~"

I love writing that is descriptive, i find youdon’t always need a concrete plot, the images are a story in themselves. Beautifuly written.

:-) Rachel ´Saya´ Lamine replies: "=3 Thanks. I wrote this about 2 years ago (which is insane for me to think about) so its not one of my best pieces. Glad you enjoyed it.
Covenant Waters is my most recent piece which I’m currently working on. The going is slow, but it is going, which is more than I can say for most stories I write."
