I love mermaids! I love them so, so much. This is one of my most recent mermaids, though I think I'm long overdue for a new one (working on that right now, in fact). This mermaid shows my absolute favorite sort of color scheme, that lovely set of ochre-based colors.

I did away with drawing individual scales. I think that's for the best, don't you?

Personally, I really like her nose. And the seaweed top. Someday I will dress as a mermaid for Halloween and I will have my own seaweed top...

Prismacolor colored pencils on bristol board, outlined in sepia colored pencil instead of ink. 9x12.

She is so beautiful. I am a big fan of the ochre color scheme too! I love the seaweed nicely placed around her ta-tas.

Yes, the seaweed is an excellent touch. One thing I’m less positive about are the feathery fins. Especially the tail fin. It just seems like water would flow through the feathers instead of be pushed by them. Love her expression!
