SciFi and Fantasy Art Cheerful Mermaid by Lauren ´Selie´ Liebowitz

I like mermaids. I guess you could say that I really like mermaids, almost as much as I love fairies ... I don't know why, but it's a lesser-known obsession of mine. So one day I worked on a black-and-white picture of a mermaid on a rock. It was very ugly, but people really liked it, and after a while I decided to try to remedy the situation by making another mermaid that I would be more satisfied with (the other became very dated very fast, as my anatomy skills improved). This mermaid is more pleasing to me, even though people say that I lost the wistful expression and replaced it with cheerfulness. Apparently that doesn't look as interesting. I don't know, though ... even though she's cross-eyed and a little bit off, I like her. Yes, I inked all her scales. I started a trend with this one that you'll see on all of my mermaids and nagas. PAINFUL.
I love watercolor. I don't use it often enough. But that's what this picture is - watercolor over waterproof black ink.

I think maybe she just went through something dreadful and now she sees the sun and it is so beautiful that it makes her smile and become warm. I really do think this drawing is very beautiful. I think that it is amazing how you can bring upon this knowledge with only a look at this picture. Two thumbs up!
