So, I take commissions, especially when I go to conventions. The vast majority of commissions I get are fanfic illustrations. Others are pure fanart. Occasionally I get to illustrate other people's roleplaying characters. I had never in the history of taking commissions (and I've been taking commissions for five years now) been given a general idea and told 'draw whatever you like.' Until this picture.

The commissioner requested an angel, hunched over somehow as though she is in pain, with wings that turn black near the bottom. That's it. The rest was up to me. And I really, really like how it turned out, so much so that I asked the commissioner if I could take it home and scan it and give it to her the next day.

Incidentally, in the rare chance that a visitor to my gallery has commissioned me in the past, and you have a copy of something you've commissioned me to draw, send it to me~~! Woooooo~!

Anyway, this commissioner was awesome. It was like I was being paid to draw something I might have drawn on my own anyway. Do you have any idea how cool that is? I like that. More people should pay me to draw angels. And fairies. Lots of fairies, mm, and mermaids. It's like being paid to have fun! Aaaaah!

Pencil, drawn at AnimeFEST 2005 for a lovely young girl who was very friendly. I hope she liked it as much as I enjoyed drawing it.

Out of curiosity, how much do you charge for comissions? Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad you enjoy this picture. Sorry to be replying so late - I'm sure you're not interested in commissioning me by now, but in case anyone else has any questions, I'm sticking this in the comments. The cost of commissions varies so much based on what the person wants and what medium I'm using... this one was a very inexpensive commission (I think it was $15?) because I was really excited about drawing it and it was a simple pencil sketch, but I don't have as much free time any more so I can't do that quite as much..."
