So, Hope is the picture everyone knows, if they know anything in my gallery. I like it and all, but it's four years old and if you look at the lineart, it really shows. I keep trying to oust it to prove that my art really is improving, but people insist on liking it best, and that makes me sad. With that in mind, I decided to do another stained-glass fairy. This time I wanted to go for something with both tighter, more polished art and a meaning that is important to me. Thus, here we have the fairy Hope breaking free from her chains - no matter what happens, no matter how dark things get, hope will always find you if you let her. A sketch, inked, and then scanned and colored in Photoshop - many painstaking hours went into making this.

So then may I writer something about her? And maybe, when I can, I'll post it on Elfwood for you to see. 2

Yeah I guess so.... thanks... for what? Well i don't even know. I think this picture is better than the original picture Hope. that's my opinion.

Thought you should know I did write a short story about the picture, though it won't be shown to anyone, or put anywhere without your permission. I was just bored and had to write something about her. It's really good, to bad I have to wait one month and 2 years to put it up. Doesn't that suck?

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "Age restriction, hm? Yeah, I remember hearing that they set that up a while ago ... but just think of everything you'll have written by then. You'll probably have improved greatly as a writer, and you'll be able to have quite a "portfolio" if you keep writing the whole time.Anyway, I'd love to read the story if you wouldn't mind sharing it (my email address can be found here on elfwood, I think) - and I promise I won't do anything more than read it and maybe email you back about it, if you want. I'm a writer myself, so I think it's really, really cool that you were inspired by my art in any way."

Oh, wow... It's so beautiful... I feel all warm and fuzzy! lol It's a beautiful picture, one of my favorites, and I love the message... Hope breaking free from her chains... I just love it! Do you think you could draw a picture of a character I came up with? If you can't I understand, but if you can I'll send you the character's description! I love your work, you're an inspiration!

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "I'm afraid I'm having trouble finishing my paid commissions in any reasonable amount of time, so no requests, sorry ... but I think you should try to draw your character yourself. There's a certain magic when someone draws their own character, and having someone else draw him/her just doesn't capture that."

A very beautiful piece. I love her facial expression. Completely at ease, as if she knew all along that everything would be fine (which, I suppose it the point). Lovely wings as well.

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "Yes, that's the point - everything will be all right, just don't give up. ^_^ Thank you!"

Amazing how the wings are perfectly identical. I wish I had the patience for that! I <3 this pic! You are so talented.

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "Thank you! Yes, it does take patience - the wings take about as long as a detailed mermaid's tail. But I'm finding that if you put a lot of time into details, it can pay off. It's the most-time-consuming and also the most-rushed pictures that turn out best. Everything in the middle, not quite so much."

Although I love the original "Hope", it is true that this version shows great improvement. The facial structure is beautiful, and the anatomy is more realistic, particularly her hands, which are lovely and very expressive. And as you say, the line art is much more polished. A beautiful piece with an inspiring theme.

You’re like my favourite artist. I love all your paintings, especially this one. I love the darkness and then the colour of the wings. I wish I could draw like that... 2
