So, I'm writing a novel for my honors thesis for school. I've made up my own culture and setting for it, inspired mostly by the old Norse but with elements of Native American culture and a hint of other places as well. There are two main ethnicities in the land of my novel, the Tribes of the Sun (dark-skinned and red-haired, nomadic, the artists and the warriors) and the Villages of the Moon (fair-skinned and pale-haired, stocky, farmers and craftsmen). These names are subject to change.

Anyway, the way the world works, according to these people (who fight and coexist - they're in lots of small groups, not organized or anything, so their relationships vary), is that the Sun and the Moon are in love and wish to be with each other, but the fates set them in opposite sides of the sky, because as long as they strive to be with one another, time will turn and life will exist. The people of the land worship both the Sun and the Moon, though the different peoples have a closer relationship with their particular deity.

Here is an image of the Goddess of the Sun in battle mode. I sketched it while my friends and I were roleplaying a particularly violent and intense battle scene, because I have to channel that kind of energy away from me or else I will flip out. I didn't use any references for anything except my own head and what I've designed for the cultures in the novel. I initially started drawing a regular swordswoman but this is what it became, and I was pretty excited because I never draw action pictures. I cleaned up the sketch and darkened its lines, and then I scanned it into Photoshop and went to work. I've never used this many layers, I think. And I've never really used the glowy effects before, either. Maybe I went a little overboard?

(my boyfriend likes to make fun of me because of my crazy love for warrior women. and rogue men. oh dear.)

I'm going to have more colored pencil works up soon, hopefully. AND there will be many other pictures from this novel's world and its characters. Just you wait and see!

Truthfully she might be the most beautiful woman I have ever seen... Such aura of power... And I love her hair! XP The colours are really eye-catching. Just beautiful! Thank you so much!

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "Wow, what a huge compliment. I'm not sure I deserve that. But thank you! That's very nice."

This pic is AmAzing i mean WOW... The way you have coloured it is inspiring and looks really professional. I am only 15 so i haven't got the jjist of layers and CG but hey, i'm working on it. Anyway all of your work is outstandingly excellent and all of it has the 'WOW' factor. congrats on mods choice aswell, you deserved it, big time.

P/S I'm also a leftie......

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "It just takes a lot of practice and hard work! If you know somebody who can show you their technique, or if you can find a good tutorial online, those can also help. Thank you so much for complimenting me - I think I have a while to go before I could call myself professional quality, but if I get close on occasion, then that's exciting. Thanks so much, and good luck with your own art."

This pic is really beautiful! I love everything on it, especially her clothing. I also like that she's not so skinny. Great job!!

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "Yeah, I'm not especially skinny myself, so when I draw people they often have a similar body type because that's what I know best. Thank you for the compliments on the clothing design! I've always had a hard time designing costumes but I've been practicing and I think I'm getting a little better."

I love sketchyness 2
no seriously, this is a great pic. I like your colour choice.

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "Thank you! I love sketchyness too. And thank you for complimenting the colors - I mess that up often enough, but I'm pretty happy with this one."

So cool. Its nice to see some warrior women for a change and not just warrior men.

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "In much of history, women weren't allowed to be warriors ... but in certain other cultures, women were warriors, so there's an argument for art either way."

This is fabulous.

Her face is so like a character in a book I wrote, even the eyes are exactly the same colour.

In fact the only differences are the lights on her face.
I’ve tried to sketch her on paper and draw her on paint but nothing works. I’m good writer but hopeless at trying to get the images of my mind onto paper.

Could you email me please! I am hoping to publish my book some day and would love an illistrator!

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "Thanks!
If you’re still looking for an illustrator, let me know! I really loved working on this picture and I’m kind of surprised to know there’s another character out there who looks like her, but hey! It’s a small world."

i love the way you drew the sun, its absolutly amazing.

:-) Lauren 'Selie' Liebowitz replies: "Wow, thank you. I’ve gotten some criticism that the sun is too messy and should be more precise, which is probably true, but I’m glad you like it! I had fun making a stylized representation of it."

I don’t think you went overboard. She is beautiful! I love the glowing sun on her forehead and stripes on her cheeks.18
