I spent a lot of time making the wax version of this sculpture, about 8-12 hours. Preparing for casting on this was complicated because of the feathers on the wing. They are rather thin for the bronze casting that we did (this sculpture is less than 2.5 inches tall, 8 inches across and 6 inches long). I used a patina to turn the bronze black and then took some away to give it highlights of bronze showing through. It looked good all black too. I couldn't decide if I wanted to take it back and make it all black again, but I decided to leave it like it is.

I really like both the statue and how you combined the various angled pictures of it. All of the details are awsome. Just thought I'd leave yah a comment after all this time I've enjoyed looking at your wonderful pictures.

1 Annette M. Burke replies: "Hey look!! You left a comment! I'm so proud of you. Heh heh heh. Well you know, I used to have that one angle up, but I decided it would be better to show more of it, so I had fun and did this. "

Very good, very good.
Seems very proportionate to the style.

:-) Annette M. Burke replies: "Thank you. I felt kind of limited when I did it, lots of time constraints, so it ended up like this. "

That´s the first bronze figure I have seen here on elfwood, and it looks very professional! Maybe it was a good decision not to leave it black at all because the highlights enhance all the details very well -at least on the photo. And half patinated as it ´s now the griffin looks more like a very old statue. Keep on doing such neat work! 12

1 Annette M. Burke replies: "Yes, that's why it can be here on Elfwood."

22 Oh i wish i could make something like this! It’s beautiful! Where did you get the bronze form or did you get someone to actually do the bronze for you? Whatever, it’s BEAUTIFUL!!!

I’m glad you didn’t make it all black. It looks awesome the way it is. I’d seriously consider buying one if I ever saw it in a store...or on Ebay. 12
