My name is Shelah Dow.
I have been sketching and painting since I was little, but more seriously since the age of fifteen. I yearn for art school, but for now I learn by reading books and trying out new techniques.
My dragons began with tiny polymer clay (Fimo and Premo in particular) sculptures that I had made for a Dragon Swap around 1999 or 2000. The dragons were so well loved, I began to sculpt them as beads and sold them on ebay. They went fast, were numbered and had certificates, and sold for around $25 each. Sculpting them wasn't enough. I had created a story around them, began then to sculpt bigger busts of dragons around four inches tall, and to sketch them in various poses. I am still working on getting certain poses just right. In the sculptures, they have beaded tendrils, just as they have the tendrils in the paintings.
I favor charcoal, graphite, prismacolor pencils, and Derwent watercolor pencils as my main mediums for creation. Every once in awhile I throw in a computerized drawing or two made usually in PSP 5.0. I'm spoiled by the old layout of the program over new releases. I am working on my gallery website at this time from the bottom up, graphics, etc. I also working my art into cross stitch designs (not the kind where you just map it all into a single full color chart, but the kind where you work on each stitch one at a time and decide the appropriate colors, etc.)
As for me, I'm a thirty-three- year-old artist married to a very intelligent and wonderful man (ie...I'm happy) and mother to a beautiful thirteen-year-old daughter who is often my inspiration.
