"Dreaming With Her Eyes Open" by Shelly Pinder

I had my husband and daughter pose for this one.  (That's pretty much how he looks when he first wakes up in the morning, teeth and all.)  I wanted him to be darker and kind of fading into the background, almost as if she is walking past a picture on the wall and he is coming out to get her.  The idea is that she has a burden or a curse.  She's used to bearing it, but she certainly doesn't like it.  She's tired and sickly because of it and she is looking at the viewer for help.  I used a wash of india ink in the back, applied with a brush.  This goes much faster and appears much richer than the usual markers that I use.  The rest of the color is Prismacolor pencils.  Completed September 2008.
