The little mermaid dreams of life above the sea. I'm a real sucker for fairytales, so when I started to doodle the boy's face, the first thing that I thought of was to turn it into a scene from Hans Christian Andersen's 'the Little Mermaid'. It's a shame that this isn't on good paper, but at least I've got a good scan of it.

(Pencil, digitally tinted, 2004).

I've just read the story from H.C.Anderson and was looking in Elfwood for pictures of the little mermaid. And I found your's.
I can just say, that this is so perfect. Really! That's exactly how I imagined her. Her face, her beauty, her look and the way she's hugging the boy's statue - it's so realistic. You can really feel how much she is longing for him, for another life and for his love.
Oh - and the most wonderful thing in your picture is that she doesn't look like the classic beauties - models with perfect faces, smiles and bodies. She looks like a girl, innocent but beautiful in a way, that's not obviously but can also be seen, somehow. That kind of "inner beauty"...
A really great and adorable piece of art!
Thank you for this picture,
Theresa

it is really strange because when i read Hans Christian Andersen's 'the Little Mermaid'i imagined that she would look just like that! i dont agree with "..." i think that her eyes are perfect and give her a longing, yearning look.

Poor mermaid. This is lovely. The color you used is quite perfect for the picture too. Very nice.
