During an age of heavy development in the fields of Chimerism, (using science to combine the bodies and tissues of two or more animals for various purposes)and Xenomachina (high-class term for cybernetics and artificial intelligence), corruption amongst research companies brought on a rash of animal testing clinics. However, animal rights activists declared many of the products and methods tested in these clinics to be inhumane, and they proposed a law to make these practices illegal. The law passed, and while this was all fine and dandy for animals and their activists, the research companies still needed a way to develop their technology. So, all of the experts on Chimerism and Xenomachina created a top-secret plan, where they decided to carry out all of their experiments on a single subject. By doing this, the scientists could elude the press from uncovering their illegal operations while still getting paid for their research and developments. That unfortunate subject is known to a select few by the name Experiment 5. There have been others of its kind, (experiments 1 through 4, presumably,) but Experiment 5 was the only individual to survive the numerous, painful tests. It is an ugly, disturbing creature, but the most frightening of all its features is probably the fact that it began as a normal animal. A dog, a cat, an ape, or perhaps even a human underwent these torture-like operations that warped its body into what you see today. Locked away in a well-hidden location, the monster used to howl and scream all night and day, throwing itself against the walls of its cage and tearing at the iron bars, desperate to escape. Now, however, its become much quieter, sitting motionless in the darkness, silent as the grave. Sometimes, though, if you listen carefully enough, you can hear its soft, melancholy cry, Im lonely... Im scared... The Japanese characters in the corner translate to 'White Dragon', which is my usual online screen name. Mechanical pencil, posted 12/20/06.
