Summer has come, and it's way too hot even to think, let alone move. Inevitably, mind drifts towards Arabian Nights. That piece is about a nomad, or perhaps a dervish...

Whirling dervish of the desert, lightning scarring velvet twilight,

Wasteland demon of destruction, living sentinel of night!

Driven by the oaths unspoken, lost, forgotten, but unbroken,

Lives are shaken, lives are taken by your scintillating might!

Laugh when blood is burning, boiling, cry the cold and callous warning,

Caught between the moonlit moments, moth between the fleeting flames,

Your existence is unmeaning, hand unerring, unforgiving,

You are chosen, you are frozen in the greatest of the games.

Thunder rumbles, rips and roars, jackals lament for the fallen,

There is nothing - be it heaven, hell or sky, sea waves or sand.

Triumph takes you, triumph tears you, triumph makes you cry and sears you...

From the distance, lions watch you, ruler of this ruthless land.

Very, very nice, and a very well deserved Mod's Choice. An amazing poem, as all of them have been.

As always, I am impressed. There is something in the imagery this conjures that truly captured my imagination. A certain lusty grasp of the dialogue between the land and the narrator. Kudos. I think James put it best, and as such, I will not aim to improve upon it.

It is always a pleasure to discover something new on your scroll, Mikhail, but a much greater pleasure to open it and read your words...

After this you really want to take up the dance, be it lethal or not. Other than that it would just mean repeating what's already been said. Great poetry, -DarkGuy

When I read this I think of a nomad standing, facing the desert storm defiantly as the winds whip his hair into his face and the flying sand stings his skin...he stands there and chants this song, uncaring of the danger he is in.

In other words, I am unbelievably amazed at what you've done here. This is one, if not THE best poem I've read on Elfwood...

This describes someting and you're not quite sure what it is unless you actually pay attention to the title *I never do* It leaves lots for interpretetation and I love that in a poem, I like to be shown, not told what is happening and you have done it really well.

the rythm of reading reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe's, "The Raven"

Nothing like a poem about dancing ascetics. Very well written.

This is the most amazing meter ever! I'm going to have to write something with this rhyme scheme now. This--is--awesome!!

Very nice! I love the lyrical meter and language, as well as the easy description of the land. Very descriptive. I'd like to read more!
