Medium: pencils and Photoshop (color, borders and texture).
Original size:A4.

Experimenting aged scroll look... Also, in order to help the 'medieval' feel, the drawing is not realistic and not very detailed.

I agree with the previous comments, you did a wonderful job on achieving the aged look. I also really like what you have done with the fogginess of the setting, the way that the details of the castle are harder to see towards the back is well done.

I have to disagree with several of the comments--I'm finding the aged look to seem extremely fake at the edges--while the picture itself is very good, and the way the 'scroll' gets darker near the edge, just the jagged 'falling-apart' bits look fake. I don't know if that's because the background is all black (maybe get a wood pattern or something underneath, to make it on a table?) and that makes every little piece stand out, or what, but the edges are bothering me. Aside from that, I like it. =D (and not saying this to be mean--just constructive criticism! <--*wanted to make sure no one gets mad at me*)

2 E. D. Siffert replies: "Constructive criticism is welcome. Thank you! (I'm really bad using a mouse. I guess that's why the edges look so bad. I wish I had a tabblet...)"

I actually came back and looked again, and found what it was that really bothered me about the aged look--especially in the bottom left corner it's pretty clear, but it's all over--there's some white/lighter brown spots on the very edge, right up against the dark brown of the aged part. I think it's extra clear BECAUSE of the black background--they might show up much less on a white background or at least a lighter one. It is because of the light edges that it looks fake, at least to me. I hope my c. criticism helps the next time you do this! (and it's very good for a mouse; I don't have a tablet either, but I want one. ^_^)

It reminds me of a faded photograph, only taken in medieval times. I think its a neato idea, if that was what you were trying to accomplish. I especially like the moncromatic browns. It gives the feel that it once was a very intense dramatic picture. Anyway, I really like this peice and I was wondering if you do any work based on Brazillian myths/folklore, because that would be really neat. Most Fantasy art is Europe influenced and it would be nice to see something new and different!

Indeed, I have plans of doing a series based on Brazillian folklore. I hope I'll have some free time by the end of the year and be able to start working on it."

This is so beautiful! Wonderful work. Old architecture can be a pain to draw; I know I need practice with it!
