Alauda Arvensis - the latin name for the lark, if I remember correctly, and it has a lovely ring to it, hasn't it? ^-^ I chose to name this piece that, mostly only due to chance. See, while looking for a reference for those wings, the only picture coming even near what I wanted was that of a lark. The latin name of the bird caught my eye, and as I didn't want to forget it, I wrote it onto the side of the sketchy mess this picture was back then ;)
Well, I found another picture to have as reference, but the name kinda stuck, and while finishing the picture (worked on it on and off for several months) I somehow started to see her as some sort of sentinel of the larks, and that's about all the information I have about her.
Other than that.. well. I like to think I did my absolute best with this one. I tried some new stuff, learnt some new things, and manage to create something at least slightly out of the ordinary, what with this not being the typical angel in the typical colourscheme. All in all I'm happy ^-^

Medium: done in watercolours on watercolour paper, and just a bit of white acrylic colour on the eye and on the light/soul/shimmering thingamajigg in her hand. The outlines on the halo behind her head is water resistant ink (love it). Oh, and I used some references for the pose, and, as said before, for how the wings should look.

What a gorgeous painting. The earthy colours are beautiful, and she looks so serene!

I love the contrast of dark and light in this picture... the choice of colours is also very good. This and "Silent Carnival", these are your best pictures in your gallery, I think.

2 Anna Skult replies: "A lot of black and blue went into this one, I recall 0_o Strangely, I haven't used this colourscheme since this picture (haven't really painted anything in a while, come to think of it). I was aiming for giving it the feel of an icon, but it also creates a very warm atmosphere.. I should try it again =) Thank you for your comments, Matthias!"
