This is one of my 'own' little creations when it comes to merfolk. This picture I made to replace an older one with the same concept: It was originally inspired by the fairytale 'the little mermaid' by H.C Andersen. In this picture a flower from the world above is found by a lonesome mermaid, and her fishy eyes gaze upon the odd treasure. If you find her face to be very expressionless, I can reassure you - that's what I was aiming for ^_^ Fish never really seem to convey any emotion, especially through their eyes, and I was hoping for the same kind of non-visable feeling here. Gah, enough babble from me. It was done with watercolours. Enjoy! :-)

Can't believe this has no comment yet...this is by far one of my favourites. The mermaid (or squid girl, not quite sure what to call her) Is really stunningly realised...the details of the scales and facial features, and the blend of primary colours and black is vivid, powerful and utterly gorgeous in its sense of vision.

It manages to create a sense that sunlight has filtered down from above, and -just- dwindled away in a cool glow before reaching her, making the scene both ethereal and real, just like how everything seems underwater. I just love the composition and the mixture of colour and shape. Watercolours the way they're meant to be used 2

Meh, I could go on for a long time about how much I like this one, so I'll sum up... the vision, composition and execution were all perfect. This is a wonderul piece.

Squid girl, indeed *grins* I can't quite say what the heck she really is, but that's what's so good about fantasy, if you ask me - you don't really have to know everything 2
..I'm a bit amazed that you were able to find so many poetic things to write about the picture, stuff that I was aiming for when painting, but that I didn't quite think I succeed in capturing. So thanks for that! ^__^ I so totally love you for the comments! *grins, and pokes* Ehm... right. So yeah, thanks! *pokes again, and quickly sneaks off*"

I like the combination of colours in this, as well as the movement and the alien ’fishy’ feel. One of the more eye-catching pieces in your gallery. 2

:-) Anna Skult replies: "I’m glad you like it ^_^ And I have this urge to redo it again, even if this is supposed to be the redone version. I just wish to find out if I have enough skill to make it even better! ...though the question is; do I have enough time? Sigh. Thanks for commenting! =)"
