Literally, 'The beautiful woman without mercy' in French. She's based off of a french legendary faerie (which most cultures have in one form or another) who seduces men and steals their souls, dooming them to wander, lost in love with her, for ever...or untill they die. Happy neh? I got a lil' obsessive with borders lately. yay. 02

is'nt it " sans merCi " ???

:-) Megan Skye Hale replies: "You'd think that, but actually, the J.W. Waterhouse picture I got the name from and the book I found it in both wrote it that way, I think it's because it means "mercy" not "thank-you" which merci would mean."

"merci" means thank-you but it also means pity depending on how you're using it. The poor fellow probably didn't speak very good French. "mersi" is not a word in French. So "La Belle Dame Sans Merci" could be translated as "The merciless woman" or "The thankless woman". Either one works. I have also read this poem but the mistake had been corrected.

:-) Megan Skye Hale replies: "Hey, thanks! I just got the name off a JW Waterhouse pic, since I didn't have a copy of the poem..so he must have drawn it before the correction!"

Ah yes, a lovely line drawing. Great work on the line quality, it has an almost Art Neuvou look (I know that's spelled wrong!) to it. I think perhaps you could have made her a little more devious with her expression, it would have contrasted nicely with her sweet Snow White-ish costume.

:-) Megan Skye Hale replies: "thanks Rebecca! Yeah, she looks a bit better in the real pic, you know what shrinking does..but not much, I was on this whole kick where most of my faces looked all doll like and adorable then.."

I like the borders, and she is way cute looking, great dress, I like your Drawing style. Nice job on the inking too. ^_^

:-) Megan Skye Hale replies: "hey, thanks! I based the dress off a real style during the Italian Rennaisance..not french..but close. *grins*"

pretty... kind of like the belladonna plant in the solanis family. If you consume it, it drives you insane, but was used in medieval women's eyes to dialate them, making them prettier. No wonder they died so early. What were they thinking, dripping poison into their eyes?! Anyways, pretty picture. I like the color scheme.

I'm french too. It's "merci" and it doesn't mean thank you in this case.
