Definately take the spacing of the eyes comment to heart - even the professionals in japan follow the rules. Remember, bigger isn't necessarily better. My prime recommendation would be to take a break from anime and try drawing realism a while. Or at least sketching it. Even Anime artists can draw realism, that's how they're taught. You'd probably find it'd help you immensely in making beautiful anime drawings. Another recommendation - Study the composition and the colouring of anime, and try and see if you can work them in. Japanese anime is known for its gorgeous compositions and well rendered backgrounds, for all most people think of it as being known for wild hair styles and eyes Dani Smith replies: "Thankees, I guess. I already have. Most of the stuff on this page is super-old, as I hate it now, really... I just refuse to upload a new one, and deleting something... Um... Let's just say, I refuse to do it. Occasionally, yes, I do 'dabble' (cough) in realism, but I don't post it up here because it's not fantasy/sci-fi. I'm WORKING on backgrounds... God, how I hate the extra work, but I AM working on it..."
| 4 Dec 2004 | Dani Smith | Loading...Okay, just a word from the artist.
This is mostly REALLY old stuff. I mean, my style is MUCH improved, if that says much for my current 'talent'. The angel picture, the one with the stars, is the best example of that here. If you feel like making mean comments or even politely critiquing me on anything, remember that I will be like 'yeah, I know that and that and that... Anything currently wrong you'd like me to fix?' Just to let you know.
For those of you who like positive "I luv it!" comments, you're cool. Mainly because I look back and go "har! I can do better than that..."

All your pieces have a very characteristic emotional feel to them. I love it when I see an artist who really, genuinely has his or her own style that can't quite be matched. Keep it up! Dani Smith replies: "*blushes* Thank you so much! I promise to color more-I've had to do that more anyways, but sometimes your confidence goes down when you see a bunch of people with photoshop...? I don't know, but I will definitely practice! Thank you (again)!"
