Here is a first plate, test one for a serie of illuminated illustrations around Louise Cooper's novels

Central illustration is Sister Erminet teaching horticultural science to Sistercot novices.

For this one, I used a William Morris design as the border. The original is a black and white woodcut so it has been fiddled around a lot. For the next plates, I'll design 6 borders that I will alternate.

It's traditional medium : gouache on walnut stained paper with 22 Kt gold leaf. The whole thing is 7 in. by 9 in.

I agree with the above - that the border is quite wonderful Don’t have any constructive criticism, but I do enjoy how the wavey-flowy pattern is repeated in the border and then the moon and the clothes of the woman in the center. Also, the colourscheme is very nice, and I’m sure the gold leaf looks brilliant in reality.
18 Feb 2009	Michelle Tolo	Loading... As I look at the border, I can both see and feel hours pass by . It is so delicate, and I can tell that you’ve put a lot of effort into it. The illustration is wonderful as well; the style reminds me of the religious illustrations you can find in cathedrals and so on, and it goes very well together with the border. I can assure you that no matter how much time and effort you spent on this beautiful piece of art, it was worth it . I hope the mods will notice this, and give it the star it deserve!
