2001 - Oil paint - 64cm x 49cm

And once again - a dragon! What else? I love these creatures! This one is made with oil paint. I'm quite pleased with the dragon but the horse's legs aren't that good... and the clouds.... oi oi oi!

The dragon is... dynamic and fluid, I love it!

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you! *sighs* I just have to work on horses and backgrounds. This would make such a nice piece if the other elements came out as good as the dragon. "

I have a hint for the horse if you like. The legs are fine as far as position and length. However, they need to be more defined past the knee and to the hoof. Look up some pictures or scrounge up a horse, you will see that the knee and "ankle" are well defined. Also, the forelegs have very defined muscles that you may be able to indicate with a dab of paint (though I wouldn't know since I have never used oil paint). Hope I helped!

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you, Megan! I think you're right there. Though I will not try it out on this picture. The drawback on oils is that you don't have any undo-button... ;-)"

I think the legs look like the horse is breaking or beginning to prance. And I've been riding for seven years!

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Hmm. I'm not sure about those riding terms. I intended a panickly running horse, though still under the control of it's rider. Thank you for commenting with riding expertise! 2"

I meant braking. Sorry about that. he legs looks like the horse is braking. And prancing is when a horse stands on the hind legs only.

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Ah, I see. Hmm. That's bad. It should look like it's running very fast to escape, not like it's braking or doing anything to slow down - understandable with that dragon in their necks... Well, thank you again, Hanna! I knew anyway, something with those horse legs has got to be done."

I like the clouds - they give the picture an air of "drama" - the storm is about to break loose!

3 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Yeah! ;-) Thank you again, Kirsten! (I'm thinking of scanning this with a better resolution and trying to do some digital touchups, especially on the horse.)"

This pic is beutiful and amases me (i cant use paints at all) though i have one minor critisism in the desighn. I think that the dragon should have more enhancements and decoations especialy on the head. This dragon looks good, but i think it would spruce up the painting to include horns or a frill or something. (its your choice though... Now im going to go back and stare at this pic untill my eyes melt)

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Well, I guess that's a matter of taste. Usually I draw my dragons with horns and spikes an all that stuff. But this one is a storm dragon that lives and hunts at the coast, above and under water. The model for him was a ray and it is supposed to be that smooth. "

Well it could be braking to change direction very quickly you now. I donīt think they look that bad.

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you, Hanna! That's comforting. Hmmm. Might be a good thing if the horse can change direction that quickly. Well, the hunter surely knows what he's doing, he wouldn't play the prey for that dragon if he wouldn't think he'd safely make it to his hunting-companions in time..."

I love it! Only one criticism, though... throw some horns on that dragon! =D

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Nope. No chance! That's my smooth and aerodynamic little stormdragon and he doesn't need any horns. ;-)"

This almost looks like something you'd see in "The Lord of the Rings". You know, when Eoyen and fighting the Witch King? That part of the movie. Great job!

2 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Oh! Thanks! Though I did not think of the Lord of the Rings at all when I painted this. "
