December 2004 - Soft pencils and water colour - Original size 17cm x 24cm

A christmas gift.
I love the effect of those mixed media! My first try was with water colour only but the way it is now is so much better.
Hehe, guess what bird species is behind those songgryphons! :)

I can say it again and again, as Kerstin: I love these little creatures!
A wonderful picture and a wonderful mood!

1 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you a lot! I'm confident now that the gift will be appreciated tomorrow..."
22 Dec 2004:-) Kerstin ´kolibri´ Eiben
*first comment forest walk* I so love your little songgriffies =) Hmmm, perhaps some kind of finch... chaffinch? It's a beautiful picture and I like the idea of walking in a forest not knowing about those sweet little creatures.

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you Kerstin! I bet there are many things like those cuties hidden from our attention when we walk around in the world... To your guess: Nope. No finches. I admit this one is much more tricky than the other one. There are so many grey/brown birds..."
23 Dec 2004:-) Uta ´Freawyn´ Hesse
Oh, I love this! This perspective is spectaculair! hm... what birds? "Eichelhäher" I would say... but I am not sure!

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you, Uta! Though: nope, no Jaybird (Garrulus glandarius). These here are too grey and the wings have too little black and lack that tiny pattern of blue and black stripes. "
26 Dec 2004:-) Christel Arielen Scheja
I am not good in recognizing bird species, but I like the perspective - the little guys watching the humans.

1 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "*lol* Can you imagine that these fluffy cuties were perceived as dreadful, ghastly beasts by the family of my boyfriend? And can you imgine my astonishment when I heard this description? ;-)"

Oh i cant tell the difference between bird species but, as it is a Christmas pic, could they be robins? Oh but i dont think they have red on their wings, but anyway this and all of the other pics in this gallery are beautiful! 2

2 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Nope, they are no robins. This one is quite difficult. I hope I haven't drawn them too badly. On the other hand, they don't show much but their backs..."
6 Dec 2006:-) Fred Gillyweed Jones
Not redwings!!! I mean waxwings!!! Those ones with the little red dots on the feathers that looks like wax... is that right? sorry about 1st comment, I am feeling dumb today...

:-) Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Hi Martha! No, they are no waxwings. In fact, the songgryphons of other "Secret of the Forest" picture are based on waxwings but not these two fellows. ;-)"
6 Dec 2006:-) Fred Gillyweed Jones
Are they, uh, whaddaya call'ems, redwings? Probably not... Worth a try.
18 Jan 2007:-) Stephanie H. Gregory
These htings are so cute. They remind me of sparrows. There is a lot of detail in this. I cant wait to see more of these guys.

2 Esther S. Brendel (Maiden name: Esther S. Wetzel) replies: "Thank you a lot. Maybe there really needs to be a sparrow-songgryphon species. 2"
25 Jun 2008:-) Sarah Fragore Roper
i was thinking that if you wanted another idea for a christmas girt you could do a songgryphon/robin one.
