Sophie ´Photosoph´ Matthews

Sophie 'Photosoph' Matthews

Sophie likes drawing and doing a little writing on the side.

*UPDATED WORKS: The Pen, What the Room Holds, and Gon' Fishin.*
Age: 15
Name: Soph/Photosoph
Country: New Zealand
Pet(s): Three Cats, dog, a flock of sheep (which are lambing at the moment! Lambs are so cute... ;) ) and three chickens.
Likes: birds, cats, animals in general, a few insects like cicadas, praying mantises, dragonflies and butterflies, frogs (although I don't really know WHY I like them... maybe it's their bright colours and eyes.) and chickens (they're so funny!!!).
Things you might want to know: I'm stuck at home most of the time and do schoolwork by correspondence, since I have a condition known as CFS, or ME (which is NOT fatal but does take a while to get over, like years). But I'm quietly amusing myself as I wait to get well. There is no medicinal cure yet, but eachperson sort of either has to wait to get well or find something that helps to improve their health. *UPDATE: woot! I have finally found something that helps me -green lipped mussels! ...Yes, it's weird, but it helps me feel better. But I wonder if I'm going to get sick of eating them after a month, though...*
Technique: For my artwork, I usually do a sketch in pencil which I go over with a decent ink pen then rub out the pencil beneath. After that, I could shade it and colour it in with pencil, but since half of my pictures are done on lined paper I generally scan them in and redo them in Adobe Photoshop using my picture as a base. Hence the name: 'Photosoph'.
Writing: I generally like to write in the first person, but on short stories I usually make an exception. I like writing humourous stuff, with just a little touch of seriousness at times, since I think that helps to give stories actual storyline. Sometimes... anyway.
Friends (VISIT THEM!!! -Please?):
Here are some really nice artists who introduced me to Elfwood:
Sarah C. Matthews
and Rachel-Jayne Hwang

Thanks you guys!
Oh, and if you think you should be on here, and you're not -sorry. I don't update this page much, and I'm mostly just putting up people I know from NZ who have a gallery in Elfwood.

I hope you enjoy my stories!

C'est un autre invalid... Too bad about CFS, but this is about your writing and your writing is fun... Keep it up!

2 Sophie 'Photosoph' Matthews replies: "Ah oui -c'est la vie. Yay! Another person who speaks french! I'm glad my writing is fun to read -it's always fun to write. Besides, I'm slowly improving from CFS -I'm really blessed. I WILL try to keep it up -thank you!"

My other Elfwood neighbor! Anyways, your stories are just too perfect. Kind of a sick humor, but tis a great thing, don't get me wrong. Your work is very creative, and tis very funny how they always end, I wasn't expecting it the first time I read one. I only have one complaint... You only have two! Well, I do too, but yours are very cool. Farewell

11 Sophie 'Photosoph' Matthews replies: "Aw... thanks for the greeting. I like adding humour -I don't think I could ever write a real scary horror story -I'd freak myself out in the process. So humour is always good -removes all the tension that at times can be far too much. Mostly I just like the idea of an evil Santa, myself. All those annoying pictures, ads, cards, signs etc featuring him are EVERYWHERE... I'm sure there must be a conspiracy... an evil plot... going on there somewhere... ;D"

I always thought there was something strange about that Santa Claus..watching you when you're sleeping and knowing when you're awake..pretty creepy old guy. ;-) Your writing is so creative and really funny! I love the dwarf song. Keep up the good writing..and let me know if you have any updates!

2 Sophie 'Photosoph' Matthews replies: "  Thank you! I can't believe you read the Santa Claus stories though... *shudders* I can hardly believe I wrote them! Lol, it's weird: I NEVER read stories if I know that they're horror stories, and yet I have three of them in my gallery... I know they're okay, but I'm really considering them out after I've put more stories/poems/etc up. I mostly wrote them as humorous stories, but when I read them later, I found them extremely disturbing... *shudders again*. Anyway, I'll keep them up a little longer, then reread them and consider whether to leave them up or not.
Thank you for your comment! It's cool to see you around my library. I'll tell you if I do get up any updates, but somehow I have the feeling that could take a while. ^_^
Well, there's major bad weather (when it's supposed to be the HOTTEST months of the year here), especially with some sort of cyclone approaching at 2pm tomorrow... so I'd better go before a powercut happens and deletes what I've written. Eek!
Cya!"

Hellooooooooooooooooooooow, remember me? I am that little girl that just loves your artwork and who was very happy to get all your comments. I tried to return your favour, but you have my eternal thanks!!!!
Now I am going to read your stories!
Love Rian

2 Sophie 'Photosoph' Matthews replies: "Wow! Thank you so much! Don't worry, I remember you. ^_^ Be careful when you read my stories, though; I don't like them so much because they are so SCARY! *runs away and hides*. You don't need to return the favour! It was fun to read your stories. Just tell me when you put more up!"

Someday, I'll write and publish the fantasy lampoon I've been planning, and I will hope it reaches the level of a Photosoph. *applaud*

1 Sophie 'Photosoph' Matthews replies: "Thanks! Although... what on earth is a lampoon? Haven't heard of one before...
The level of a photosoph? Is that good or bad? ~_^ Lol. I'm glad you like my writing. I need to write more... but generally anything I write is between 20,00 and 30,000 words, and most of that is stuff I don't want to put up, except for maybe a few chapters. But, like with the dwarven drinking song, every so often I come out with something short enough to be read in one sitting. ;p .
Oh, and thanks for coming back! Sorry I took so long to reply -as you can see, most of my attention goes on my gallery, not my library. But I'll try to check it more often. "

Hi, thanx for the comments on The New Machine. That was my first successful shot at writing a novel and I'd thort it would b consigned to my list of embarrassments, but clearly I was wrong. *Notices your position on the map.* Christ, don't you ever wonder if you'll fall off the edge?

11 Sophie 'Photosoph' Matthews replies: "No problem -I enjoyed your novel. If you get any new novel writing up, please tell me so I can read some more of your work! Love your writing style. Keeps interest the whole way through.
*Glances at the map* Actually, the only thing I'm ever worried about is of NZ bumping into Antarctica... ;D Lol. Or being left off the map...
Actually, funny enough, after Lord of the Rings or Whale Rider... or maybe both, someone finally convinced Universal Studios to add NZ to the gold globe they have above... their main studios? I think it's there anyway. I didn't even know it was missing until I saw them agreeing to put NZ on it on the news. *shrugs*"

Congratulations for being chosen Writer of the Day.

I prefer classic or historically-based fantasy to contemporary fantasy, but nice job.

22 Sophie 'Photosoph' Matthews replies: "Thanks heaps -though I really don’t think I deserved it. XP I haven’t written anything in AGES. ^_^""
8 Apr 2008:-) Jacob Bowdin
It is always too bad to see good galleries that have seen a decline in comments... I’ll change that =), anywho, some neat stuff you have up here... I really liked that drinking song, quite entertaining... don’t be discouraged, it can be hard to keep comments coming on here at times.

11 Sophie 'Photosoph' Matthews replies: "Very true, that’s the way it was when I was first here. Thank you so much for going through and commenting on everything -unfortunately I no longer update or hang around Elfwood much. v_v I’ve got a DA account that I update once a month though -but there I just update with artwork. 2"
