Daphne was a draiad and the daughter of a river god in Greek mythology, who was chased by Apollo one of the major Greek gods. She didn't want his attentions, but another god took pity on her and changed her into a tree to escape him.

In this picture I imagine that is the first time they see eachother, and Daphne being a draiad, is always warry of being seen, so she is ready to run at the first glimse of a stranger.

Ah, so lovely. I really like this picture. Wish i were so skillful! (hmm seems to be a day of jealousy for me)

:-) Steph Steph Salt replies: "Thank you Pille, and your art isn't too bad either, look at some of my earlier work. Just keep working at it and you'll get there, you do show promise in what I saw 9n your gallery."

Beautiful pastel work, Steph! I find the effects of texture really outstanding in this one. The grass and foliage look so realistic. And the veil of water at the foot of the waterfall creates a very special etheral atmosphere...

:-) Steph Steph Salt replies: "Thank you greg. *hugs!* I've just told Alison in my reply to her, that it took me three attempts to get that waterfall looking right. Mist is a very hard effect to get with pastels, have you ever tried it? Everyones comments has made the hard work really worth it 1"

I just love this one Steph. It's so soft and intimate. Your getting better and better. 2

21 Steph Steph Salt replies: "Thank you Alison. You can't tell that I redid the waterfall 3 times then? LOL!That is the honest truth, I scrubbed it of twice before I finally got it right in my third attempt."

Excellent work, Steph. Your anatomy is great as usual and the use of colours just brilliant. The waterfall looks so real 2 You say Daphne is ready to flee, but with that rock wall behind her, i get the feeling she is a bit trapped... hehe, but she's half divine so i guess a waterfall wont stop her, on the contrary... easy to hide in the foam 2)))

:-) Steph Steph Salt replies: "Hi Cristina, thank you *Hugs!*"

I like the waterfall very much. It's really wild water. Daphne is beautiful too, so is the greenery in the background. Everything is perfect!

:-) Steph Steph Salt replies: "Hi Anneke, thank you *Hugs!*"

The colours are so beautiful, very classical. I like the textures too.

The dynamic way in which you've portrayed the waterfall really adds so much to this pic. I love the hints of light cast on her skirt
