A wonderfully preserved fossil specimen of the rare Articulate crinoid, Brachycrinus rex, with three specimens of Microastercrinus microplumosus in a limestone matrix. Aparently, the crinoids were buried in a mudslide, and were broken at the bases. However, the mudslide then kept them from becoming disarticulated.

*GaSp* ANDROSS BRAIN!!!!! No, really! It looks like some kind of disillusioned brain attached to a spine made of celery!!! I actually like the strangely-grinning-floating-feather-thing the most for some obscure reason... Gimme one!!!!!

That's actually pretty cool. Looks like it really could have come from the fossil record.

Methinks ye went blind drawing this.Just exactly WHAT that was supposed to mean?

brachycrinus rex...my latin isn't all that strong, so my translations is probably off, but methinks that means 'tyrant arm crinoid' what do I win? It's terribly off. The name means "thick crinoid king." "Tyranos" is tyrant.

How big is this thing? And who was the wacko who stamped it with that seal? The museum must have lax security or something.

Is this from head work or from an extrapolated life study? The detailing is absolutely superb, like you were lookin' at a model. Mmmm... starfish with stems...Well, I did use a reference pic from a book on crinoid fossils.

duh! I wasn't thinking straight. 'Rex' means 'king', duh, stupid me, I knew that from various theropod studies, crinus is obviously crinoid, but I thought brachy meant arm...oopsa! brachi is arm, isn't it? as in brachiosaurus, whose name means, 'arm lizard'? now you've confused me Stanton. oh well. *points at the funky fossil* Bob!

It's still pretty cool, regardless. Fossils have always been really interesting, especially when you find them yourself. Always a sense of awe, which I suppose may be why you're studying biology.
17 May 2002:-) Cynthia Lane Armstrong
That's a really neat perspective.

How incredibly interesting! The detail is great. 1
