||Karkadans don't exacty "mate for life." Males and females maintain their own separate territories, and each owner mates with his or her neighbor, when receptive. That they hold their territories for life, or until driven out, means that lineages can be traced. While the mother provides the most care for her calf, the father also provides much care, usually by allowing the calf to share his kills, or by regurgitating food for it.|
Here, a Karkadan tristonux bull is guarding his calf while the cow is away, probably hunting. The bull is cracking a rib bone from an old kill, in order to allow his calf to have its marrow.
