From the interior work from the upcoming book 'War of the Lance', this is one of 8 works for that series. Painted in Photoshop 6 with a Wacom tablet, it took about 2 days of work.

Wow, i love the water, there are alot of beautiful colours in there, it's amazing how people can do water, i wouldn't know where to start. The sky is really nice too, i like the lightning. The boats look a bit cartoonish compared to the background, but thats your style and its cool

:-) Alan Gutierrez replies: "Thanks! Considering the circumstances of this job-and the time spent on it and the money involved, one can't be cranking out a masterpiece every time. This simple fact-the idea and reality of commercial illustration, dealing with specific criteria, and a fast deadline, is lost on 90% of artist here. This is NOT fine art. So I'm told some of my art in this gallery is lacking this or that. I know for a fact, artists who do great non-commissioned work go down in flames as soon as their told they have 2 days to do this illustration. You seem to at least recognize the style has to emerge in the speed of painting images, where time is money. "

Really neat picture, the water's great, as are the clouds and lightning in the background. My only criticism is that the ships somehow seem a tad too...oh, I dunno how to express it...they seem slightly separated from the rest of the picture, every so slightly to clear and clean, like a freeze-frame from a cartoon. At least, it kind of appears that way when I look at it closely. I'm not an artist and don't have a trained eye, but that was my impression. Can't pinpoint exactly where it comes from though, and it's not a huge destructive thing at all. Just there. Hmm...anyway, I still really like the pic. The colors are rich and the idea is cool. Ships and sunsets are always great ideas.

Love the water (blood?) ! Water is so hard to do. The lightning is pretty spiffy too.
