Because of some interest at Elfwood on showing the old Sci-Fi book cover art from back in the 1980's, I've added this 1987 painting from the book by Bob Shaw, prequel to 'Wooden Spaceships' about two worlds attached by a common atmosphere. This art shows the connection between the world a bit better than the other cover. This art is not featured in my Website gallery, and is shown online for the first time in years. Oil on masonite.

I must say your oil technique kicks your computer´s technique ass! That sky is one of the most inspiring settings I´ve seen in a long time. Hand made works like this are so much better than anything painted or rendered in photoshop. The composition, the pink cloudy forms, the lighting, are masterfully executed.
But you already must be aware of all that. You are a pro.

:-) Alan Gutierrez replies: "Thanks! But though it's true the look of real paint outdoes CG art anytime, the realities (for me) of getting deadlines met and cutting costs in a constricted and competitive market, mean CG has to be the medium of choice. Most of the CG efforts in this gallery are years old, and, I have made some strides in closing the gap a bit..."

It's funny that this is one of your older pieces, but after browsing your whole gallery, I definately feel this is the best piece you have on Elfwood. You have great talent, but this is the piece that shows it the most.

"99 luftballons" the first thought that popped in my head when I looked at this picture. Funny that in the song people thought they where ufo’s. I’ll get to the point. You have a great painting here and your way of painting the clouds is very awesome.

I have a signed and numbered copy of this print. I think this is the best you have on Elfwood. I very much enjoyed your earlier works and became a fan when I saw a slideshow you presented at Pacific NW Sci-Fi Convention. <3 your work. Keep it up!
