SciFi and Fantasy Art Chai Xianghua by Alan Gutierrez

From Soul Caliber/Soul Edge. Painted in 2003, Chai was my first Asian character I painted, and I actually made more asian than the game! I've been accused of 'westernizing' asian character in anime-though there's no evidence that many were intended to be asian. In this game, Xianghua appears 'westerized' and so, I added my own costume and look, of how I think she might actually appear. Gouache on masonite.

I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying, the way she is in the picture looks... odd. But keep doing it. I'm an artist,too. Alan Gutierrez replies: "It dosen't bother me actually...All I do is change her name and that ends the resemblance thing. It was never intended to look like her-just inspired by her."
25 Jan 2005	She who has many Names	Loading... Cool, I like this, I wonder why they had to put her in such (trying not to use insulting words) revealing clothes, why couldn't they have put her in something like this? Beautiful costume by the way.
