Tag As FavoriteComment		From Sailor Moon. From the 'S' series, one of my favorite characters, the enigmatic, conflicted friend/villain who dominated the last half of the season, Hotaru was a sickly girl with awesome powers, which I tried to depict here. She eventually becomes a Senshi, Sailor Saturn. Painted originally in 2001, and digitally enhanced in 2003. Oil on masonite w/Photoshop 6 effects.

:-) Alan Gutierrez replies: "Thanks! I did use my daughter to pose for me, using some lighting (a light bulb) near her outstretched hand. I took a polaroid or one hr. photo thing and it went a lot easier than "winging it"."

This is amazing....she looks at peace which is so hard for Hotaru sometimes...at least when she first appeared in the story. I love it.

I love hotaru, she's my most favourite character from the series. Though I think this might be a little too much of peace and harmony, this pic still is absolutely amazing (like all the others in your gallery, too). I really can't get enough of your style. Never seen hotaru in a context like this...

Beautiful! You've really made the Sailor Scouts look realistic! I've always liked Sailor Saturn. She was so sweet and kind-hearted, yet she was also VERY mentally disturbed. (a little like me...)And worst of all, it wasn't even her fault.

You know, she doesn’t have that uniform anymore after she awakens as Sailor Saturn. Remember how the Mugen School was destroyed by Pharaoh 90? In the manga, because the school was destroyed, Hotaru had to go to a different school for the gifted. The uniform is almost identical, only it’s black. Oh, and Amara and Michelle/ Uranus and Neptune, had to go to Serena’s public high school. Because of that, Uranus couldn’t wear the boy’s uniform anymore, and she had to wear a skirt.
