| 19 Jan 2008 | Zoe mattacks | hi chris! do you remember sue anderson? well, that’s my mum! Max sent me this link and i think your work is absolutely amazing! just bought my first graphics tablet and been trying it out! How do you get the scales on the dragons that you paint to look so realistic? | |
| 20 Jan 2008 | Chris Mills | Zoe, (or is that Caragh or Beatrix) - as my best friend’s little sister your Mum was fairly unforgetable: we lived in each others houses as kids.
Scales, hmmmm - get some good reference material (aligators, crocodiles, lizards etc) and then kiss goodbye to your sanity for however long it takes - they are extremely boring to do but unfortunately are fairly essential for a good dragon. Good luck with the wacom. Say hi to Sue. My email is on my profile page if you want to contact me direct. Chris
| 10 May 2008 | Ale "Lexie" Ferraris | I m speachless in front of your works.. You are one of the best artist I ve ever seen... and a great example for me... Really hope to improve my techniques and to reach your own level! I ll keep following your gallery... greetings Chris Mills replies: "Thankyou. I wish I could finish more stuff but work is eating up my spare time at the moment." | |
| 24 Jun 2008 | 5ilver Dragon | How do you get such precision w/ watercolors? Chris Mills replies: "At the risk of sounding a smarta**e; a very small brush.
Takes time but it usually works. (Sometimes it doesn’t)"
| 24 Jul 2008 | Michael A. Rasmussen | Absolutely breathtaking. I don’t know how you do it with watercolor!
All that effort really pays off. Amazing, phenomenal work. Chris Mills replies: "I’d really like to try acrylics but up to now I’ve not had the time to learn. I do use ink a lot which helps bring the colour out a fair bit."
| 4 Sep 2008 | Ale "Lexie" Ferraris | I have your same problem..my job takes away almost all my day... I m sad for that... | |
| 13 Sep 2008 | Michael King | I have to say, I found this page by accident, and yet, it is already one of my favourites. Dragons are one of my favourite mythological creatures and this page is a feast for the eyes. Excellent. | |
| 16 Sep 2008 | Ale "Lexie" Ferraris | Hi Chris, I checked up your gallery on Devart... and found your wonderful - amazing - breathtaking
dragon sculpture...!!! You know, I too have just finished a dragon with clay! I really would like to know how did you make the scales!!!!!Did you put clay piece by piece or did you carve scales directly on the head??? Thank you a lot for your answer! Chris Mills replies: "lexie - he’s made of Super Sculpey and he was done the hard way by carving the scales once he was baked - DO NOT try this if you value you sanity! Broken scalpel blades, sliced fingers and hours and hours later he’s still not finished. Still, I’m very proud of him and will post shots once he is which won’t be too long now - got an exhibition in November so he’s got to be. Many thanks for the comment."
