"Spirit of the Tree" by Estelle de Pierre

Spirit of the Tree came alive at full moon,
Only for one night, like it does once every 100 years.
Walked 8 times around itself, searching and looking all over
For the other trees that once stood there...
But alas couldn't find any.

Spirit of the Tree wondered why the Forest had gone,
And suddenly felt so all alone...
So it looked at each and every
Of its many and whirly branches
Gloriously gleaming in the golden moonlight.

Until the morning came, after what seemed like an endless night,
Trying to solve the enigma of why
People would cut down the forest that they once loved... so dearly.
Spirit of the Tree went back to sleep,
Unsure of if it would last another century,
Wondering if it would ever come back alive at full moon...
