my favourite book "the stone and the flute" by hans bemmann bears loads of really nice small stories among the main one. one of my favourite stories packed in the book is the one of the green man's lake. the residents of the fishing village next to the lake used to sacrify a young girl every year to the green man of the lake, to keep him happy and to let him bring enough fishes around for fishing. one day a fisherman finds a green lady and marries her. at the birth of her daughter the woman dies, so the daughter, aglaia, is everything the man has for himself to remember his great love to her mother agla. but the years pass by and aglaia grows up to an age where she will be amongst the chosen ones to be sacrified to the green man. and one year it fell upon her to be given to the green man. so, after that decision, she retires to prepare herself for her faith...

Awww.... nice story. And a good picture, too! I especially love the background - tell me that isn't your back yard: I'll die of jealousy if it is!

2 Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "thanks for the nice comment megan2! naaah, too bad it really isn't...8... (i'd looooove it though if it was... !!!) it's actually the center square of my favourite castle2! i just love it there...2"

I love that book too! Never met anyone else who read it though ^^
Anyway, the photograph is beautiful. Very peaceful and calm and I love the costume!

2 Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "wuow, really2? aaah over here it is really spreading around my friends... i gave it to sooo many people already, and it was the same with the friend that gave it to me2! but you're right - the book itself is actually quite unknown8... the costume was lent by the museum of the castle for a workshop we were doing2! thanks for your nice comment2!"

The evil streak within me sees the pond and a single word echoes deep within the recesses of my hollow mind... The word is... "Push"

1 Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "*ROFL* oh myyyyyy, you made me laugh sooo badly...2!!! aaahhh... i just imagined her (well, actually it's me... *lol*) falling in there with her legs in the air (like the stepsister in "ever after") and one can see the medieval whool tights and leather boots (even though i wasn't wearing any of it... *g*)... aaahhhh, you maliscious lil' boy... ;-) good one!"

I have also read 'Stone and flute" and I loved it!!
My mother gave it to me and it really influenced me in some way... Are you doing medieval workshops like this often? I'm in a reenactment group myself, I often go to medieval and antique markets and I could never imagine to miss it again...

24 Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "yeah, it influenced me a lot, too... i still get a shiver only thinking of "suche den schimmer, suche den glanz..."2! i even bought the MC's of the first book to listen to;-) *sigh*.yeah i do often go to such medieval workshops, specially to dancing ones, that is soo... much fun! i have also been visiting all medieval markets i could and am planning to attend some in south germany or france too this year, since there are not many of those in switzerland8... that group of yours must be so much fun! yeah i couldn't imagine living without it, either...2"

I have to admit i hated that book - too many moral lessons on almost every page for my taste. But the way you use photography is really stunnning! I love the composition, one could look at the picture for a long time and just dream up a story about it ...

18 Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "haha, how funny2! you're the first one i ever met that hates the book *g* 2! i'm glad you like the picture though;-) thanks for your nice comment2!!!"

This is gorgeous - the pose, the composition, and the gentle, muted colours. Your photographs are lovely.

:-) Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "thank you norma for your kind words... all this encouragement about my photographs made me push myself for an exhibition of only fantasy photographs... now i’ll have to stick with it and dare2!! thanks again2!!!"

This piece is lovely. The costuming, the pose, and the entire sense of being resigned to fate all come together very well in this photo. You’re a very good model. 2

:-) Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "wow, thanks so much robin for your lovely comment2! *blush*"

Being in the process of rereading stone and flute (didnt make it all the way the first time I tried), I happened to have the story quite at present while viewing this image and do think it fits the theme beautifully - love that green water in the well, all those shades of green everywhere merging into gray and finally white, awesome.

Two days later I visited the castle and saw you sitting there at that well in my minds eye all night long 2.

The picture is truly beautiful, yet imho the composition is just a bit too focused on the person. Would have loved to see a bit more of the tree trunk to the left to frame the picture and the horizon set a bit lower, moving the focus slightly off center.
Though obvious Photoshop filters are usually a no go, I really like this canvas/linen one, it matches your costume so well, its like adding a sense of touch.
Absolutely stunning photograph!

:-) Stephanie S. K. Marbach replies: "wow, thanks so much anad2 your idea with the focus a bit off center is really good. i was thinking of her on the lower left side, showing more of the upper right one. would be worth a try, for sure. have to see if i find it and if it’s possible2 i told you before what the reason for the cutting was - the castle background just wouldn’t fit a fantasy theme as it is expected on elfwood, or the background house wouldn’t fit the story board with aglaia sitting somewhere alone on her own and not in the middle of a town or such. i’m glad you like it2 thanks again2!"
