Sorceress

Well this lady sorceress doesn’t have a name yet – suggestions welcome. She started out ‘life’ as a sci-fi character, changed into a fantasy character and then reverted back once more, which is a testimony to my lack of conviction at times during the creative process. Glowy balls for mana gathering? Who knows..I just like the way they look.

This piece is a relatively dramatic shift in the look and feel of my art (in my opinion) for which a nice little 2.5d drawing/modeling package called Zbrush is to blame. At times it is the most incredible piece of software that gets you dancing around the room as your mental image becomes a reality on the screen. At other times the opposite is true (no magic wand or any form of selection tool and a maximum of 12 layers!). I had imagined a rolling landscape background with torn down temple structure surrounding her in the foreground but my PC had other ideas. By the time I got this far it was as if my PC’s new years resolution was to have a variety of interesting seizures. So I settled with this rather naff background on account of me being worn out trying for anything better.

In my opinion this is the best piece I have done so far. It followed the usual process of several wasted days where I scrapped everything I drew and considered these failures as visible proof that I would never be able to draw anything I would like. This seems to occur every time I start a new piece and thoughts of throwing in the artistic towel tend to cross the mind more than once. Really I should learn to ignore myself during these times. Fortunately I found something I liked in the early stages of my sorceress and fought tooth and nail against my doubts to complete it. Just thought I would mention all that for anyone reads this who goes through the same artistic meltdown – you are not alone!

Indeed remarkable art, and yes, the lower parts of the legs are somewhat confusing because of the socks patterns, but the level of details and the draw itself are impecable, keep it up

Hey, I love the picture. It's amazing. The character in it reminds me of a fantasy character from a book I've read. Have you ever heard of Drow? They're dark elves, and you nailed the look head on. I realize you didn't intend this, but you did it beautifully. Keep up the good work.

I think this is really well done, I especially like how you did the hair, it reminds me of Mucha and Art Nouveau. How did you acheive that effect? I agree that this is your best piece to date, keep up the good work!

That is some excellent Zbrush art you have there! I could never really get the hang of it 8 more like Photoshop than 3DSMAX, only without the whole simplicity thing. Great work though, I am thoroughly impressed ^o^
