The Birth of Pegasus

Poor girl!
Thus are you released from my curse:
Your blood seeping into the sand
As Perseus escapes
With your severed head in hand.

For your vanity you were punished;
Your beauty taken away.
You've lived as a hideous monster
Until this very day.

But I shall gather up your blood
And with it I shall cast
A creature whose great beauty
Shall never be surpassed.

A splendid steed it shall be
Capable of flight.
With magnificient wings
And a brilliant coat of white.

None who gaze upon him
Shall ever turn to stone.
Yet none shall ever tame him
Without this bridle of gold.

Therefore, Medusa
Free from any curse
Rise up again as Pegasus
For I now give you birth.

Fantastic! I always admire those who can re-write ancient myths like that, because I love mythology, but know little enough about it. Well done!

HEY!!!! HOW COME YOU DIDN'T TELL ME YOU UPDATED?!?! AND HOW COME YOU DIDN'T TELL ME YOU GOT A MODS CHOICE?!?!? *hangs head and is hurt*

Well, now that I'm over my little temper tantrum, I'd like to say that this is probably my favortie poem in your gallery. Pegasus is my favorite mythological creature ^^ You wouldn't know it to look at my gallery, but I'm not brave enough to draw him yet as I need to research wings and the like so I can get an idea of how big they would need to be to support a horse. Anyway, I didn't come here to ramble about my shortcomings. Lovely poem!!!!

Mmmm.... I simply adore anything to do with ancient myths, and this is so well put together, it flows so beautifully.

A well deserved Mod's Choice. I love the rhythym of the poem, as well as the imagery.

The ending was very powerful (had to say that before I forgot), it was an excellent poem and a well-deserved Mod's Choice.

Your grasp of mythology is very good, and your presentation of myths in a modern poetry style is quite enjoyable. Good work.

very nice--I love seeing myths put into poetry (and I am partial to a sympathetic view of Medusa . . .)

What most poets don't seem to realize is that you don't have to rhyme everything. If you try to make a rhyme where it would be better off without one, the poem sometimes comes out sounding artificial and forced. You should do more poems like "The Apple." That was a great poem. I like the ideas and the imagery, but this poem, as well as the ones with the leprechauns a while back, is just sounding too much like you didn't really think about writing something good and though more about making it rhyme and fit. I know that you can be an awesome poet, if you'll just quit rhyming. I should know, I'm a university poetry teacher.
