This is another picture I created for a contest at the Garden ArtDuels. This particular contest had the subject of "Elements". Most artists think of Elements in the classical sense but I had a sci-fi version in mind when I created this one. This picture depicts a Black Hole devouring a nearby star. I was inspired by a documentary I saw some years ago called "Black Holes: The Ultimate Abyss".

During my creation of this picture I decided to use manipulated photos only. No digital painting here, except for my final signature of course. The asteroid and little house on it are obviously photo based. But can any of you guess as to what kind of objects I used to create the Blue Star and Black Hole. To give you a hint they are photos I took of ordinary objects familiar to most people.

A note to the Moderator: If the Moderator needs to see the photos I used I'll be happy to send them in by email. All photos used to create this picture were taken by me.

I like your choice of color. Very Vibrant. What a great way to look at the elements instead of the norm. This is a cool picture. I like how the colors or rather the elements fade into each other and then ~Wam~ You've got that blue sphere. The fact that you put this picture in space was a nice touch. Great Job with this piece. Keep up the great work.

1 Steven P. Love replies: "Thanks for the return visit.;-) The colors are suppose to represent the Doppler Shift. If you studied Astronomy or Physics you'll already know what that is. But just in case you don't the Star is blue because it's suppose to be close while the flames swirling around the Black Hole are further away. I'm sort of a sci-fi nut so more will be on the way. And don't forget to check out my stories and fan art."

good luck trying to survive that living in that house10

1 Steven P. Love replies: "Thanks for visiting Chelsea. Actually my original version did not have the house. I put the house there as an extra sci-fi element so that it would be approved for Elfwood. "

This is a very cool picture, since black holes are one of my favorite celestial objects. I've studied them exstensively when I wrote a story concerning one and it's interesting what you find out about. Small black holes, supermassive black holes, and check out the Circinus Galaxy.

1 Steven P. Love replies: "Thank you. One new theory I've read states that it is possible to escape a Black Hole by using Quantum Tunneling to travel faster than light. But it's only a theory."

I like the ...*ahem*... observatory 12
Based on the lovely Cygnus X-1? A source of X rays as the hapless little star is ripped apart.

:-) Steven P. Love replies: "Thanks for commenting Dave.
It wasn’t based on any particular known Black Hole, but I was inspired by this documentary I saw called "Black Holes; The Ultimate Abyss"."
